Field Trips

This is a list of possible field trips we may enjoy this year.

Art Museum –

Children’s Museum of Indianapolis –

Connor Prairie – Explore Indiana life in the 1800’s  at the home of William Connor and his family.  Unlike traditional museums, Connor Prairie is a “Living History Museum”, a place where staff dress, act, and speak as if in the time period they portray.  In addition to self-guided tours, special programs such as Living off the Land, Churning up Chores, Trail of the Trade, and Civil War programs are offered.  (Driving time: 35 minutes)

Crown Hill Cemetery – Discover Indiana history at the nation’s third largest cemetery.  Twice voted the “Best Walking Tour” by Indianapolis Monthly Magazine.  President Benjamin Harrison, James Whitcomb Riley, John Dillinger, Civil War generals, and many other notable people are here. (Driving time: 19 minutes)

Eagle Creek Park – The largest park in Indianapolis is home to 5,300 acres of nature preserve.  We can visit the Earth Discovery Center and the Ornithology Center to learn about Indiana wildlife.  (Driving time: 24 minutes)

Eli Lilly Civil War Museum / Soldiers and Sailors Monument – x

Firefighters Survive Alive and Firefighters Museum  – Learn fire safety from a Marion County Firefighter, practice an escape, and see historical firefighting equipment.

Garfield Park –

Indiana State Museum – Indiana’s Museum of Science and Culture.  This museum has it all.  The Lincoln Collection, Jazz Age, Madam C. J. Walker, Lewis and Clark, Johnny Appleseed, James Whitcomb Riley, the Foucault Pendulum, Geology, Science, Star Wars, IMAX, and so much more! (Driving time: 11 minutes)

Indiana Medical History Museum – x

Indianapolis Motor Speedway Hall of Fame – x

Indianapolis Zoo – Meet the animals and experience the 4D theater adventure.  (Driving time: 12 minutes)

President Benjamin Harrison Home – The home of the 23rd president offers programs such as Settlers and Surveyors, Native Americans of Indiana, Sense of History, The Signing, Coming to America, Banner Year, and guided tours.  (Driving time: 12 minutes)
